August 7th - November 5th - Lyon Martin Visual Art Exhibit (1748 Market Street Suite 201)
Femina Potens teams up with Lyon-Martin Health Clinic to present visual art works from artists Suzanne Forbes, Kira Scarlet, Katie Gilmartin and KD Diamond using drawing, needle point and illustration to create health awareness in the queer, women and trans communities. Our exhibition's goal is to create an environment that is comforting and approachable through artistic expression. We art striving to make an experience that can be somewhat intimidating more friendly and informative through art. KD "Megaphone" Diamond is a radical queer comic artist and graphic designer. She strongly believes in the direct cross-over of art and politics, and uses this dogma in her every-day art practice. She's done many illustrations and cartoons about gender, sexuality, and sex education. She's also designed many pamphlets, flyers, and posters for various local organizations. Suzanne Rachel Forbes was born and raised in Manhattan, and attended Parsons School of Design for two years, then finished her BFA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, in the Fine Art Program. She has worked as a courtroom artist for CBS Television, as the regular artist on DC Comics’ Star Trek, The Original Series, as a book illustrator and as a portraitist. Her paintings, comic art and courtroom illustrations are in collections across the United States. Her current work focuses on traditional portraiture with an alternative flavor and live documentation of bay Area alternative culture.
Kira Scarlet is an artist & illustrator with a passion for hand embroidery and digital art. She particularly identifies with the identities and adjectives queer, artist, feminist, bisexual, contradictory, unexpected, geek and kinky. She is currently exploring the connection between between art, hand embroidery, historical textiles, shibari, suspension and other forms and aspects of rope bondage.
Katie Gilmartin: "I valiantly attempted to embody the anguished suffering artist, but chronic backsliding forced me to resign myself to a life of delight, abundance, and gusto. I now devote myself to the redemptive power of pleasure, creating images that celebrate mirth, ease, exuberance, and lust. My checkered past includes stints as a buoyant union organizer, fabulous faux drag queen, bona fide sex researcher, and deeply engaged college professor. I now teach printmaking classes and create my prints at Chrysalis Studio in SOMArts. My work makes an appearance in the Good Vibrations video G Marks the Spot -- and all twenty-seven queer words, along with almost as many of my pulp prints, can be seen on my website, katiegilmartin.com"

ArtGasm is a series of exhibits, live art making, performance art, and multi media art installations presented by Femina Potens on a quarterly basis. Between April 17th and April 30th Femina Potens will be presenting exhibits & groundbreaking performance art focused around Birth, Conception, the Womb, & Motherhood. Exhibits for our April ArtGasm include Sadie Lune's Biological Clock, an ongoing piece about time and fertility, which will peak in a queer fertility insemination ritual performanceat the gallery. Collaborators for this piece include Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens. Madison Young will be opening her exhibit of Becoming MILF,which addresses her journey through pregnancy and birth while continuing her work in the adult industry. Ms Young will be doing a live performance piece in the gallery in which she pumps breast milk and hands out breast milk ice creamto the gallery goers. Other exhibits include Sonya Genel'sWomb Nostalgia, which addresses an inherent desire to return to the womb and pieces fromAmelia D'Entrone's photography series After Birth, which explores the emotional and physical adjustments experienced during post-partum. ArtGasm will be taking place at the Michelle Oconnor Gallery located on Mission St at 17th St. Gallery Openings, gallery hours and performance times will be posted shortly.

Art of Restraint brings together kink community, performance artists, and world class rope artists to create new innovative performance and installation works for a night of decadence and erotic enlightenment. This April Art of Restraint will feature rope artists and performances by the fabulous Five Star, Madison Young, JP Robichaud, Dylan Ryan, and more.

Weekend Intensive July 9th and 10th (11am-6pm) - Lights Camera Action: Deep Inside Madison Young
This is a class for everyone who wants to know how to get involved in making erotica - either in front of or behind the camera. In this weekend intensive we will cover all of the basic technical skills and resources needed to make your own erotic photo series or an sex positive porn video. In a fun and entertaining way we will do a basic overview of photo and video editing, script writing, creating a budget, marketing, and getting your films funded. Along with the nuts and bolts we will assist you in creating a vision for the erotic media that you are creating and discuss how you can use porn to create community and cultural change. In this intensive class you will have a chance to watch first hand as Award winning director Madison Young, directs a sex positive porn scene. Buy the end of the weekend all participants will have a chance to make their own 3 minute erotic short film and leave the weekend with the resources and skills to manifest their erotic vision. Creative coaching, inspirational guides, guest lectures, and artistic prompts, exhibition and writing opportunities, and creative meditation are all a part of this series. This is a great way to find community support and connection with other moms, chronicle your experiences and emotions through pregnancy and motherhood by journalling, video, and art making. Q. "How has becoming a FP volunteer cultivated a difference in your life?"
A: "Being able to contribute to the LGBTQI community here in San Francisco though Femina Potens has been a real privilege and an absolute blast! As an outreach coordinator for FP Edge, I am contacting and meeting new artists every week with amazing and diverse bodies of work. I truly enjoy overseeing and assisting in their installations around the City, and helping them realize their art-centric dreams. I am gaining valuable experience in the gallery arts, a field I hope to find a career in, as well as networking with major staples of the Bay Area’s vibrant art community.
As an artist, I really appreciate Femina Poten’s missions to expose upcoming and established artists to some of the premier venues in San Francisco, promoting sexual health, its overall positive attitude and support for all things LGBTQI, and its ability to continuously amaze me by finding new ways to combine the erotic and creativity! Volunteering at Femina Potens has been one of the most eventful and insightful experiences of my life!
